Sushi Yosuke Restaurant Review

Chirashi Lunch Box

After this post here, and that one, oh, and this one as well, I’m sure you probably know that I love Japanese food!  Today, I want to take you to one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in town.  It sure is a hidden gem for authentic Japanese good in the neck of my wood.  Our family usually go there a few times a month.  As little as we dine out, this got to be the restaurant that we frequent the most!

Delux Lunch Box includes Matcha ice cream

The pictures in this post are a collection of many visits to this restaurant.  We tried many different items from the menu and there are always a couple of them that we would order again!  The Deluxe Lunch Box (see picture above) is one of them.   The lunch set also comes with a bowl of steam rice and miso soup, as well as a Matcha ice cream (see picture below).  They charge this lunch set for a little less than $16!  I say, it’s great value.  Plus, the food they served is always fresh.

Sushi Yosuke also offers combination lunch boxes, such as the one below.

My kids love the udon from this place (see picture below).  This is one item that they always order when we dine here.

For a light lunch, a sashimi salad would be a wonderful choice.

The service at this restaurant is always wonderful. Servers and the sushi bar chefs are always friendly with a wonderful smile and ready to serve you.  Since the price of this restaurant is considered reasonable along with great food quality, there’s often a line during busy lunch and dinner hours.  So, I suggest that you might want to visit early to avoid a long wait.

Please also note that the lunch menu and dinner menu is quite different.  There are more selections for dinner compared to lunch.  When we dine here for dinner, we always start our meal with the Oyster Shoot as an appetizer.  The raw oysters in it are always sweet and fresh!  There’s also a raw quail egg yolk in it for some richness.  This oyster shoot is a little briny, a little spicy, and perfect with the boozy sake.  It’s garnish with a spire of asparagus and carrot.  Very refreshing and satisfying.

Tuna Rose wrap with scallops is another appetizer that we love.

I’m happy to report, so far, we love all the food that we’ve tried at this place.  If you happen to be in the area, you’ve got to give this place a try.  Last but not least, the Deluxe Dinner Chirashi (see picture below) is our favorite item to order for dinner.  The box on the left consists of sushi rice topped with imitation crab salad, some marinated mushrooms and pickles.  The box on the right consists of assorted sashimi, and they are always fresh.

Black Sesame Dumplings with Ginger Syrup 薑茶芝麻湯丸

Check out this video tutorial on how to make this authentic Black Sesame Dumplings with Ginger Syrup 薑茶芝麻湯丸 http://uTry.it

This year, the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節) falls on September 27.  I know it’s still more than a month away.  But there are several traditional treats and desserts that I wanted to share with you.  So, I guess I better get started early!  To read more about this festival and the traditional Moon Cake, you can click here to read my previous post.   Besides the traditional Moon Cake that we eat to celebrate, this dumplings dessert (湯丸) is another must have for this festival.  It’s because the round shape of these dumplings that represent the whole of the family.  After all, it’s a festival to celebrate family and love.

Check out this video tutorial on how to make this authentic Black Sesame Dumplings with Ginger Syrup 薑茶芝麻湯丸 http://uTry.it

In this recipe, I used the most popular fillings for this dumpling, black sesame.  Well, at least that’s the most popular filling among my family.  Some people like to fill these dumplings with read bean paste, peanut butter, brown sugar pieces, etc.  Well, that would be for another post.  I took a short cut and use black sesame powder for the fillings.  But you can also grind your own from whole toasted sesame seeds if you like. I also paired these dumplings with the traditional ginger syrup (薑茶).  The ginger syrup is only slightly sweeten and packed with fresh ginger aroma.  I also added a little bit of osmanthus 桂花 to enhance the flavor.  It adds a touch of floral sweetness without additional sugar.  But that’s totally optional.  I’ll list the ingredients on the bottom of this post for your reference.

Cold Brew Coffee to Celebrate National Coffee Month!

Come check out how to make Cold Brew Coffee with this video tutorial. It will probably be the best iced coffee you've ever tasted. Super easy to make at home! http://uTry.it

Did you know that August is National Coffee Month?  Now you do!  I didn’t know until I read it at several places over the internet recently.  But I couldn’t confirm who made up created all these National Month, and National days about food and drinks.  Such as National Martini Day (6/19), National Ice Cream Day (7/19), National Cheesecake Day (7/30),  National Pizza Day (11/12), etc.  These special days certainly had me crave for certain food or drinks from time to time, as if I don’t already consume enough without the reminders!!!  hahaha….So, if you could shed some lights about how these National days were established, please share in the comment session below.

Come check out how to make Cold Brew Coffee with this video tutorial. It will probably be the best iced coffee you've ever tasted. Super easy to make at home! http://uTry.it

According to the National Coffee Association’s (NCA) National Coffee Drinking Trends (NCDT) market research study, 83% of the U.S. adults reporting they drink coffee. In fact, it is the second most traded commodity on Earth – right behind oil.  I sure did my fair share in contributing to these numbers on a daily basis.  I don’t know about you, but I feel that I am not fully awake in the morning without a cup of joe in my hand!  I usually opt for a hot coffee in the morning, strong and bold.  But I love a refreshing iced coffee in the afternoon, especially in the summer.  One method of making iced coffee is brewed it hot and then served over ice to cool it down.  On the other hand, cold brew coffee is brewed entirely with cold or lukewarm water over a longer period of time.  I’m going to show you in just a minute on how to make that.

Come check out how to make Cold Brew Coffee with this video tutorial. It will probably be the best iced coffee you've ever tasted. Super easy to make at home! http://uTry.it

Why cold brew method, you might ask.  Here are the reasons why.  With the cold brew method, it minimizes the chance of having the acidity or bitterness that comes with brewing coffee with hot water.  Thus, you will get a smooth, sweet, and bitter-free coffee that tastes wonderful over ice.  Plus, this cold brew coffee is super easy to prepare.  Ever since I gave it a try, I’d never go back to the old method when I prepare my iced coffee!  Below is the video tutorial on how to make it.

For the cold brew coffee, I suggest that you taste it before adding any sweetener or cream.  I love mind with a little half and half and no sweetener as cold brew coffee tastes sweeter than the regular brewed coffee.  How do you usually like your coffee?  I would love to hear from you.  And cheers to National Coffee Month!

Espresso Crème Brûlée

Come learn how to make these Espresso Crème Brûlée (with video tutorial), a rich and delicious French dessert with a coffee twist! http://uTry.it
Crème Brûlée is one of my favorite indulgent desserts.  I’ve shared the Classic Crème Brûlée recipe here on my blog in the past (click here for the Classic Crème Brûlée recipe).  Today, I wanted to share with you the Espresso version.  It’s just as wonderful, if not better.  I personally can’t decided which one I love more.  Well, I guess the preference depends on the mood of what I’m craving for that day!

Crème brûlée, also known as burnt cream, is a dessert consisting of a creamy custard base topped with a contrasting layer of hard and crunchy caramel (the burnt sugar). The custard base is traditionally flavored with vanilla, but is also sometimes flavored with lemon, chocolate, coffee, liqueurs, etc.  Today’s recipe calls for instant espresso powder that gives this dessert the rich, earthy and dark roasted espresso flavor.  If you’re a coffee lover, you’ve got to give this dessert a try.

I used regular sugar on top for the brûlée, you can use raw sugar or cane sugar as well, depending on your preference or what you have on hand.  My favorite part of enjoying a Crème brûlée?  Cracking the top Brûlée with a spoon and hear that cracking sounds!
