Meyer Lemon Sugar Scrub—Homemade Gift for Mother’s Day
Before I post another recipe for Mother’s Day, I want to share a quick Homemade gift idea that you’ll love. Meyer Lemon Sugar Scrub! Who wouldn’t want to be pampered and have smooth and silky skin? Plus, smelling amazing after a massage? Yup, you can achieve all of the above with this budget friendly homemade gift. This super simple Meyer Lemon Sugar Scrub is the answer!
Honestly, I love receiving homemade gift because it just shows how much someone cares to take the time and love to make me something from scratch. This Meyer Lemon Sugar Scrub certainly is luscious, yet super simple to put together. I made this sugar scrub for a few friends, who just became new Moms not long ago and they adore this scrub. With this sugar scrub, they don't have to head to a salon, but still can feel beautiful and pamper themselves at home.
The ingredients in the scrub are super simple as well. They are Meyer Lemon zest, sugar, organic virgin coconut oil, and organic extra virgin olive oil. That’s all! It smelled wonderful and amazing as I was putting it together. Please try to refrain yourself from eating a spoonful of it during the process! I know, it’s very tempting. Yes, it’s completely edible, but I don’t recommend it. Unless….unless….never mind.
To use, simply take a spoonful (or more) of the scrub, gently massage it on your hands, your feet, elbows, or wherever your skin feels rough and needs some love. Simply rinse it off with lukewarm water afterwards. You’ll have the most amazing, soft, and silky skin after the massage. Please consider doubling or even tripling the recipe if you’re making more than one jar. It’ll be nice to make some extra for yourself to enjoy as well. Remember, presentation counts. So, try to decorate it a bit by adding a nice label and line a tissue paper/cloth with elegant prints on the lid. I love storing the scrub in the mason jars. They are so convenience.

Meyer Lemon Sugar Scrub: (Printable Recipe)
Makes 1 (1 cup) jar
Zest of 2 Meyer Lemons (you can substitute with regular lemon as well)
1 cup of granulated sugar
2 tablespoons of organic virgin coconut oil
1 tablespoon organic extra virgin olive oil
In a medium mixing bowl, simple stir all ingredient together until well blended. My coconut oil solidified a little at room temperature and that’s totally fine. Do not heat it up to melt it, as the heat might melt the sugar. Simple mix all ingredient with a wooden spoon and it’ll come together.

What a great idea! You are right, I might be temped to eat it.
ReplyDelete:P It certainly smells great. Maybe I should create a coconut and Meyer lemon cake in the future.

DeleteGreat idea. Would be great for a mom gift or teacher gift!!! Love it! Thanks. I found you from TidyMom's wrap up.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's right, Lisa. Teacher appreciation day is coming right up. :) Thanks for the suggestion.
DeleteI must smell wonderful! Great idea.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, it really smells wonderful. Can't help but take some deep breath whenever I use it. :)
DeleteSounds wonderful...concerned with how well it keeps though. Do the oils help preserve the zest? How "shelf stable" is this? Thanks!
ReplyDeletenanaonwheels@yahoo.com
That's very good question. I made my jar 2 weeks ago and it's still just I've just made it. The oil and sugar preserves the zest wonderfully. I kept mine in a dark cool place without direct sun light in room temperature. But you can also use lemon extract to replace the zest if that's your preference. :) Hope that helps.
DeleteI highlighted this wonderful idea on my little blog at http://wadelmat.blogspot.com/ Thanks!

DeleteYum! If I were to substitute lemon extract, how much would I use? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAround 2 teaspoons of lemon extract. :) Have a happy weekend and enjoy the scrub!
DeleteI love this idea! Haha I'll make sure I won't eat it... but tempted with such delicious smell. xD This is a great homemade Mother's Day gift!

ReplyDeleteGreat to make for a sleepover! Wouldn't it be great to make enough for all the girls and their mothers!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, that would be really fun and I'm sure all the girls and moms would appreciate it. :)
DeleteWhat is a "Meyer lemon" ? Is that just a name of a brand of lemon or does it matter. Does it have to be organic coconut oil and olive oil? Just wondering...
ReplyDeleteMeyer Lemon is a type of lemon, not a brand. It's a cross between a true lemon and either a mandarin or common orange. The skin is fragrant and thin. The color is a deep yellow with a slight orange tint when ripe. Meyer lemon has a sweeter, less acidic flavor than the more common lemon.
DeleteSince we're using a small amount of coconut and olive oil here, it's better to use the best quality ingredients as you can get. I would only trust organic ones. Plus, I don't want to risk putting second best ingredients on my skin. But that's just me. :) Hope the information helps.
Hi! Stumbled upon this post when looking up recipes, and this looks amazing! I'm attempting it for christmas gifts this year! (: How extremely jolly. May I ask though, if I could substitue the coconut oil for something else? Would adding an extra portion of EVOO be alright, or should I go for others like mineral or baby oils? Please advice, thanks in advance! (:
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ivy. Glad you like this Homemade gift idea. :)
DeleteYou can definitely substitute the coconut oil for another kind of oil. It'll be good to use something organic and doesn't have a strong flavor or color. EVOO often has a greenish tone and it might alter the gorgeous yellow color of the lemon zests. I personally love the coconut fragrant from the coconut oil. But you can use other vegetable oil that you like. :) Happy Holidays to you. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Oooh. Thank you so much!! I think I might try out the baby oil then! Happy holidays to you too Amy!
DeleteYou're very welcome. Yes, I think baby oil should work well. :) Thank you, Ivy.
DeleteJust hopped over from your lavender salt, and I'm making this one too! Wonderful ideas!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for trying the recipes. I love them both, enjoy. :)
DeleteGuess what Amy? My 12 yr old, made this very scrub for me for Mother's Day. She got it from Pinterest but it was your recipe! It really is wonderful. My skin feels so soft :)
ReplyDeleteOh....that's so sweet of your daughter to make you a homemade gift for Mother's Day. What an coincident that she picked my recipe. I love that this recipe is so easy to put together, really smells wonderful and work wonders on the skin. Thank you for letting me know that you loved it. Enjoy. :) Happy Belated Mother's Day to you.
DeleteAmazing idea Amy.. Wish I could have seen this post before Mother's day.. Thanks for sharing dear :-)
ReplyDeleteI made it as a bday gift it rocked!!
ReplyDeleteCool! Thank you so much for trying the recipe and let me know you loved it. :)

ReplyDeleteIf using Lemon essential oil instead of the lemon zest ..how many drops do you suggest I use?
ReplyDeleteA few drops goes a long way. You can always add more but you can't "take it out".
Deleteon the oils are these the same used for cooking or specialty oils?
ReplyDeleteYes, I used the same one as in my cooking. Those are the best quality. No need to get separate oil for this scrub. ;)
DeleteDefinitely going to make this for my mom! Just curious, but how long do you think the scrub will last? I don't want my mom to open the jar and realize there's a bunch of mold or something in it >.<
ReplyDeleteI am sure Mom will love it. It should last for quite a while, depending how you store it. I place it in a dark cool place and it's still good after several weeks. The sugar and oil are natural preservation for the scrub. Enjoy and let me know how you like it. :)
DeleteThanks - great idea. Although mine had a very liquid consistency, it still smells and feels great !

ReplyDeleteHi Amy, how often can I use this scrub? Once a week? Everyday? Twice a day?
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for the lovely recipe. This makes a great birthday gift for my friend :) I wonder if we still need to use body wash with this? If so, should we use body wash before or after the scrub?
ReplyDeleteIf you want to use body wash with this, make sure to use the scrub afterwards (not before). You would want the lovely Meyer lemon natural oil, coconut oil and olive oil to be absorb by your skin. Hope it helps.
DeleteOh, and if we were to use it on the face, do we still need to use toner etc as the face alr has been moisturise?
ReplyDeleteI haven't use it on my face yet. I usually use it on my hands, feet and elbows. But if you were to try it on your face, I would still use toner and moisturizer afterwards. Just same steps as you use an exfoliant.
DeleteCan I substitute the coconut oil? If so with what?
ReplyDeleteHi Bela, thanks for your questions. May I ask the reason why you want to substitute the coconut oil with another ingredient? That way I can make a better suggestion for you on what to use. Thanks.
