How to Make Creepy Eyeballs Halloween Brew – Kids Friendly Party Recipe 鬼異眼球萬聖節特飲

Will you be hosting a Halloween party this year?  If you do, you’ve got to check out this Creepy Eyeballs Halloween Brew Recipe 鬼異眼球萬聖節特飲!  When I tested out this recipe with my kids, they were so excited and had so much fun with it!  Yes, this is a kids friendly recipe.  But if you want to turn it into a cocktail for the grown ups, you can add 1/2 a cup of liqueur of your choice, such as vodka, tequila, or gin.  Or, simply substitute the club soda with some sparkling wine.  It’ll be just as delicious!

How to Make Creepy Eyeballs Halloween Brew – Kids Friendly Party Recipe 鬼異眼球萬聖節特飲 http://uTry.it

This recipe is so easy to prepare!  If you haven’t watch the tutorial yet, you’ve got to check it out now.  Not only you’ll see how simple this recipe is, but you'll also get to check out the special guest who demonstrated the tutorial for us.  Since I made this recipe just for my family, I kept it to a rather small portion.  If you are serving this at a party, you might want to multiply the recipe to accommodate the number of guests that you have.

How to Make Creepy Eyeballs Halloween Brew – Kids Friendly Party Recipe 鬼異眼球萬聖節特飲 http://uTry.it

In today’s recipe, I added some dry ice for the smoky and spooky effect.  It’s so much fun to use and it’s simply amazing.  It totally transformed the drink and took it to a whole new level.  The dry ice is actually easier to obtain and more affordable than I thought.  I was wondering and googling where to buy the dry ice.  Turned out, it was available in several local supermarkets near me.   If you plan on using dry ice in your drinks, I suggest that you call your local markets to make sure they have it in stock before driving there.

How to Make Creepy Eyeballs Halloween Brew – Kids Friendly Party Recipe 鬼異眼球萬聖節特飲 http://uTry.it

I kept the dry ice in an insulated ice chest as suggested by the packaging (do not keep in the freezer or a closed environment as the dry ice will release carbon dioxide when it “melts”.)  I highly recommend that you get it right before or a couple of hours before the party if you plan to use it.   And make sure you follow the safety instructions on the package.

How to Make Creepy Eyeballs Halloween Brew – Kids Friendly Party Recipe 鬼異眼球萬聖節特飲 http://uTry.it

Ever wonder what dry ice is made out of?  Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide.  It sublimates at –109.3F.  With its extremely cold temperature, we need to handle it with cautions and never touch the dry ice with your bare hands as you might get frostbite!  I was wearing gloves and using tongs when I had to add the dry ice to my drinks.  Don’t worry, the dry ice is totally safe!  Because of its heavier weight, the dry ice immediately dropped to the bottom of the glass/punch bowl.  Just make sure to sip your drink slowly so the dry ice is all melted by the time you finish your drink.  And it mostly will.  And please refrain yourself from getting the dry ice inside your mouth because it can burn your skin/mouth!

Moving on to anther ingredient of this drink, the creepy eyeballs!  They are made out of canned lychees filled with fresh blueberries.  Lychee is one of my favorite tropical fruit to enjoy (check out this lychee martini recipe that I shared in the past and see how they look when they're fresh).  With a little bit of grenadine syrup added to the lychees, they sure looked like bloody eyeballs!  I’ll list the ingredients used at the end of the post for your convenience.

How to Make Piña Colada Poptails:

How was your summer holiday?  I hope you were able to get some time off from work and hang out with your family.  We surely had an amazing vacation this summer and I couldn’t wait to share more details with you. I would love to hear where you’ve been and what you’ve done this summer.  So feel free to leave me a comment below.

How to Make Piña Colada Poptails http://uTry.it

What are the key ingredients of an ideal holiday for you?  To me, it’s not a holiday until you’re sipping a nice cocktail with a nice view in front of you!  Forget about all the stress and responsibilities for a while.  Well, even for a few days a year, it’s still nice.  Our bodies and minds definitely need a break and some rest to recharge, so that we can work harder and reach higher after the break.  Don’t you agree?

Although summer vacation might be over, we can still enjoy a little treat over the weekends to bring back those fond memories!  These Piña Colada Poptails definitely bring me back to the tropical paradise instantly!  While they taste just like the cocktail themselves, why not have some fresh fruits and vitamin C at the same time?

How to Make Piña Colada Poptails http://uTry.it

If you haven’t done so, check out my video tutorial above.  I’ll show you how to easily cut these pineapple spears to prepare these poptails.  By the way, Poptails = Popsicle + Cocktail.  I’m sure you don’t need any explanation here, but just in case. These Piña Colada Poptails are so refreshing and so much fun to eat.  They are perfect for parties and gatherings.  Or, whenever you need a 'healthier' cocktail.

How to Make Piña Colada Poptails http://uTry.it

There is one thing that I forgot to mention in my video.  It has to do with the rum that you would used to soak the pineapple spears.  Please do not throw them away after soaking!  You can use them to make some nice cocktail later.  Maybe a Piña Colada?  Simply keep the rum in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.  I hope you enjoy today’s post and recipe!  And remember, Eat, Drink, and Be Happy!  Stay tuned for more fun and delicious recipe next week!

Strawberry Mojito with Giant Strawberry Ice Sphere

Are you enjoying the strawberry season like I do?  I certainly hope so.  Today, I want to share this super fun cocktail with you that combined 2 of my favorite things, strawberries and Mojito!

Strawberry Mojito with Giant Strawberry Ice Sphere http://uTry.it

In a traditional Mojito, this cocktail consists of white rum, sugar, lime juice, soda water, and mint.  It’s a super refreshing cocktail that has a combination of sweetness, refreshing citrus and mint that complement the potent of the rum.  The soda water adds a little evanescent that takes this refreshing cocktail to another level.

Strawberry Mojito with Giant Strawberry Ice Sphere http://uTry.it

In my version of Mojito, not only that I muddle in some fresh strawberries along with the mint leaves, there’s also a strawberry simple syrup along with a giant strawberry ice sphere that makes this drink looks super cool, in my opinion!  Pun intended!

Strawberry Mojito with Giant Strawberry Ice Sphere http://uTry.it

Don’t you love the vibrant color of this drink?  I absolutely love how gorgeous it looks and it tastes just as amazing!  It’s slightly sweet and the tartness from the fresh lime juice and strawberries balanced well with each other.

Strawberry Mojito with Giant Strawberry Ice Sphere http://uTry.it

If you’re hosting a Spring or Summer party! You’ve got to prepare this cocktail!  For me, this Strawberry Mojito is definitely a Friday 5 o’clock regular! It’s the perfect way to unwind a work week!  I hope that you enjoy today’s recipe and tutorial.  Stay tuned for more fun and refreshing recipe next week!  Cheers!

Unicorn Frappuccino – With All-Natural Coloring

Last week, Starbucks introduced a special drink that was only available for a limited time.  Yes, it was offer to the general public for less than a week only!   Many of my friends and family rushed to their nearest Starbucks locations and lined up for this specialty drink: The infamous Unicorn Frappuccino! Were you one of them who tried?

Unicorn Frappuccino–With All-Natural Coloring http://uTry.it

Unfortunately, the review and feedback of this drink was not as positive as the enthusiasm of the Starbucks fans!  It was quite a mixed review, I must say.  Some described it as a refreshing sour mango-flavored drink.  Some said it was a waste of money and tasted too artificial, etc.  I guess, the artificial came from the coloring of the drink?

Unicorn Frappuccino–With All-Natural Coloring http://uTry.it

Hence today, I’m sharing my sort of copycat version of the Starbucks’ Unicorn Frappuccino with you!  Why “sort of”? Because my version would probably taste nothing closed to the original version of this drink.  But the look and color is definitely a replica!  Only, I’m using all-natural coloring in my recipe!

Unicorn Frappuccino–With All-Natural Coloring http://uTry.it

Yes, all natural color in my recipe, including this gorgeous hue of blue!  If you haven’t watch my video tutorial above, what are you still waiting for?  You’ll discover the secret ingredient that I used to create this gorgeous blue color!  It was truly magical to see the transformation of the color!

Unicorn Frappuccino–With All-Natural Coloring http://uTry.it

My homemade version of the Unicorn Frappuccino is a Blue Vanilla Frappuccino, layered with Purple Blackberry Frappuccino, topped with cotton candy and edible gold stars!  It’s whimsical, magical, refreshing and oh so delicious!  The sweetness from the Vanilla Frappuccino balanced really well with the tangy Blackberry Frappuccino layer!  Of course, you can top these with whipped cream instead of cotton candy.  But I think the cotton candy adds a layer of dreaminess to this special drink!  If you’re hosting a Unicorn themed party, this drink will definitely be the star of the show!

Thank you so much for stopping by!  Leave me a comment below and tell me if you’ve tried the Starbucks’ Unicorn Frappuccino and what did you think about it?  If you tried my homemade version, be sure to let me know as well!  I would love to hear from you!  Stay tuned for more fun and magical recipe next week!

Pomegranate Mimosa

How was your Christmas holiday?  I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful time with your family and friends.  My family had a wonderful reunion with relatives travelling from Hong Kong.  The Kiddos had so much fun playing with their cousins.  We sure hope they’ll visit again soon.

New Year's Eve Cocktail Recipe: Pomegranate Mimosa http://uTry.it

With so many things and events happened in 2016, some were great and some were definitely bad, it’s quite a mixed feeling to say goodbye to 2016!  On the bright side, there are many great things to look forward to.  The key is not to lose hope!  I constantly remind myself not to worry about the things that I cannot change, but to focus on how to improve myself in case I need to change and make things better!  I always tell my kids to think positive, but prepare for the worst!

New Year's Eve Cocktail Recipe: Pomegranate Mimosa http://uTry.it

On a lighter note.  Today, I wanted to share with you the very last recipe and video tutorial for this year: Pomegranate Mimosa.  It’s a perfect cocktail to ring in the new year!  Usually, mimosa is a mix of fresh orange juice and champagne.  I’m changing things up and used pomegranate juice instead.  It’s a gorgeous and delightful twist to the traditional mimosa for sure!  I hope you’ll give this delicious cocktail a try soon.

Last but not least, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all your supports in 2016!  I’m truly grateful for each and everyone of you.  Your comments, feedback, and encouragement mean a lot to me.  Wish you and your family a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2017!  Cheers!

Fourth of July Cocktail–Happy Independence Day!

Do you and your family celebrate the Fourth of July?  It’s the Independence Day in the U.S. and many of us celebrate this National holiday with gatherings and parties.  I love summer time parties because it usually involves B.B.Q.  I’ll list a few of my favorite grilling recipes, side dishes, and no bake desserts at the end of this post for your reference.  Of course, in my humble opinion, any celebration should includes a refreshing cocktail as well.  Today, I want to share this festive and refreshing Fourth of July Cocktail with you, it has all the patriotic colors of the American Flag!

Fourth of July Cocktail–Happy Independence Day! http://uTry.it

Don’t forget to watch the video tutorial on how to make this festive cocktail, the link is at the top of this post.  It’s super easy to make and so much fun.  Watch the video and you’ll see what I mean.

Fourth of July Cocktail–Happy Independence Day! http://uTry.it

This Fourth of July Cocktail has a few different layers.  We start with a little bit of grenadine (pomegranate syrup) at the bottom for the red color.  It’s sweet and tart at the same time, which goes really well with the blue layer, the HPNOTIQ.  HPNOTIQ is an alcoholic beverage, native to New York but bottled in France.  It’s made from fruit juices, vodka and a cognac.  It’s slightly sweet, super refreshing, and has all the fruity delicious flavors.  Last but not least, I top the cocktail with some prosecco, you can also use Champagne if you like.  I serve this cocktail in a festive sugar rimmed martini glass garnished with maraschino cherries!  It’ll be the best cocktail for your summer celebration, I guaranteed it!

Fourth of July Cocktail–Happy Independence Day! http://uTry.it

I added a few edible gold star glitters around the sugar rim, but that is totally optional.  I’ll list the items used at the bottom of this post for your convenience.

Fourth of July Cocktail–Happy Independence Day! http://uTry.it

Thank you for stopping by today.  I want to wish you all a wonderful Fourth of July celebration.  How do you and your family celebrate?  Do you host parties or BBQ cookouts?  Or do you spend it quietly, or at the poolside?   I would love to hear from you!  Cheers!

I’ve also added some bourbon, which harmonized wonderfully with apple and cinnamon.  The maple syrup slightly sweetened the drink and gives a depth of flavor as well.

Taro Coconut Smoothie with Taro Boba (新鮮芋頭椰汁波霸冰沙)

Check out how to make this Taro Coconut Smoothie with Taro Boba (新鮮芋頭椰汁波霸冰沙) with step by step video tutorial! http://uTry.it

Still remember the classic Boba Milk Tea and Strawberry Rose Rainbow Boba Milk Tea videos that I shared not long ago?  If you’ve miss those recipes, simply click here and here to check them out.  Today, I want to share another boba drink recipe with you, Taro Coconut Smoothie with Taro Boba (新鮮芋頭椰汁波霸冰沙).  I made this taro smoothie using fresh taro roots.  The texture of taro roots is similar to sweet potato, which is very starchy.  But taro root is less sweet compared to sweet potato; it has a unique fragrant and taste that you can’t get from other root vegetables.  With the fresh taro root in this smoothie, the taro flavor is undeniable and very delicious.
Check out how to make this Taro Coconut Smoothie with Taro Boba (新鮮芋頭椰汁波霸冰沙) with step by step video tutorial! http://uTry.it

This drink is inspired by a very popular Asian dessert, Taro Coconut Tapioca dessert soup (椰汁芋頭西米露).  But instead of the tiny tapioca pearls, I used some taro boba (see picture above).  The taro boba are so pretty and unique.  They turned into these translucent purple jewels after they are cooked!  Best of all, they are ready in just 3 minutes.   They have a subtle taro flavor as well. I will list the ingredients and tools at the bottom of this post for your convenience.  This smoothie taste exactly like the traditional Taro Coconut Tapioca dessert, but transformed into a fun and exotic smoothie instead.  It’s easy to prepare and so much fun to drink.  Ready to check out how I made this Taro Coconut Smoothie with Taro Boba?  Click on the video tutorial below.

Raise your hands if you’ve already dusted off the grill and started off the Barbeque season!  If you’ve done so, good for you!  Well, I have to say, I am a little bit behind on starting the grill this year.  Maybe because it’s already too hot out there even without the grill?  Or, I just haven’t get the inspiration on new BBQ recipes to try, just yet.  Are you the same like me, who needs a little motivation, or a kick at the back?  Guess what, I guess this Pineapple Gin Fizz will help.  It’s super refreshing and it is such a fun drink to enjoy while you man the grill.

Pineapple Gin Fizz--a refreshing cocktail that your guests will enjoy. Perfect entertaining cocktail. http://uTry.it

This Pineapple Gin Fizz is both sweet and slightly tart at the same time.  I love the tropical flavor of pineapple and orange in this drink.  The little carbonated bubbly makes it extra refreshing.  Perfect for the hot summer days, especially when you’re firing up the grill.  Hm….I guess I’ll be grilling some pineapple slices to make Hawaiian Hamburgers to kick off the BBQ season along with this Pineapple Gin Fizz!  Want to see how I made this cocktail?  Click on the video tutorial below!

Prosecco-Blueberry-Lemon Pops and a Giveaway! http://uTry.it

Still remember this gorgeous Nutella Melt Winter Cocktail that I shared (<—click on the name for the recipe) a while ago?  Great news!  The author of Winter Cocktails, María del Mar Sacasa,  just published her new book, Summer Cocktails!   With L.A.’s crazily hot temperature over the past few months, I’ve been longing for refreshing summer cocktails, way before summer arrives!  If you love to host summer parties, this book is a must have and I’ll tell you why.

Prosecco-Blueberry-Lemon Pops and a Giveaway! http://uTry.it

As I read through the book (yes, I am a nerd and I read cookbooks like they’re novels), this Prosecco-Blueberry-Lemon Pops really caught my attention.  I love prosecco and always have a bottle or 2 chilled in the fridge, in case of emergency!  So, I gave this recipe a try and it was amazing.  You can serve these boozy pops as is, or as Sacasa suggested, add them to your glass of Prosecco to keep your drink chilled and add some wonderful flavors at the same time.  What a great idea!

How to Make Iced Boba Milk Tea 冰鎮波霸奶茶

Come learn how to make the authentic Taiwaniese style Iced Boba Milk Tea with video tutorial http://uTry.it

If you’ve been to Asia or any Asian community in the States, you might have seen or tried an Iced Boba Milk Tea in the past.  Boba Milk Tea is a Taiwanese tea-based drink.  It is usually a tea-base mixed with milk and chewy tapioca balls.  Unlike the regular tiny tapioca (such as these), those used in Boba Milk tea are way bigger in size, it’s dark brown in color and quite chewy.  They are called Boba (波霸), hence the name Boba Milk Tea.

Come learn how to make the authentic Taiwaniese style Iced Boba Milk Tea with video tutorial http://uTry.it

Nowadays, this Boba Milk Tea comes in many flavors in some cafes; such as matcha green tea, mango, coconut, strawberries, coffee, even taro, etc.  I’m a big fan of Boba Milk Tea and probably tried most of the exotic flavors out there. But I found myself always going back to the original flavor, time after time.  Simply because in the traditional milk tea, you can taste the slightly sweetened, earthy aroma of the black tea, and the silky smooth cream/milk that rounds out the drink and gives this drink the perfect flavor and texture.  Since I moved away from the Asian community for many years, I’ve been making this Iced Boba Milk Tea at home for quite some time!  Today, I’m sharing my recipe with you on how to make this authentic Taiwanese drink.  It’s so simple and way cheaper to make your own than getting one at the cafe.  Best of all, you can adjust the sweetness in your drink.
